He was a meritorious student from the beginning and did his MBBS from The Medical College, Calcutta, the premiermost Medical College in eastern India. He topped the class throughout and bagged several Gold and Silver Medals and several other prizes. He was trained in Neurosurgery in Chennai from Professor B. Ramamurthi's Prestigious institute and was rewarded with a Gold Medal for his DNB in Neurosurgery. He was trained by world famous Neurosurgeons from Germany and France in Endoscopic Neurosurgery.
